Planning the Surprise


Planning a surprise proposal takes creativity, coordination, and the right team. Anthony reached out with a clear vision: he wanted the moment to be authentic, emotional, and framed by Washington DC’s most iconic architecture. Together, we devised a plan to blend the proposal into a family portrait session—eight people total—so Jessica wouldn’t suspect a thing.


Every detail was planned to keep the surprise under wraps. From choosing the right angles and timing to guiding the group through “portrait” poses that allowed Anthony to naturally step forward into the spotlight, the moment unfolded seamlessly. With the Washington Monument reflecting in the water and holiday magic in the air, it was picture-perfect.

“Nearby the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool, Stefan captured an unforgettable moment with shots of my fiancé's proposal that are dreamy, romantic, and authentic. His posed shots allowed us to take in the magnitude of the proposal with some intimacy, while he snapped away. Some of the photos, both candid and posed, are reminiscent of the cover of a romance novel.


We love how the images included classy black and white shots as well as photos highlighting the rich green and blue hue. Outside of his artistry and skill, Stefan also provided the photos with an impressively short turnaround and we loved that he sent us away from the proposal with a Polaroid. We showed that Polaroid image to our friends over video calls to share our big news.
